Hello all, once again it's me, Kameron, and despite being all of what I am, I know music will never leave despite how rotten I can be, so here are some songs that I really love.
As someone who has spent a lot of my life thinking about my voice, I really admire Calvin Johnson, he's not even really singing most of the time, but wow he tries his hardest on this, really just enchanting 7 minutes. A lot of indie bands have taken pride in their lyrics or songs not really having meaning, and I'm sure Johnson feels that way about this song or beat happening in general, but the complete sincerity of this song and how much of a statement it says really entrances me. It's not super stripped back, but it's pure artistry, just 7 minutes of you, the same repeating drums, Calvin's deadpan vocals, and a memorizing guitar. Just beautiful.
Do I kin Kanye West ? Maybe. As my all time favorite artist, there's loads that really hit me, the explosive and inspiring We Major, the 6 minutes of swirling that is Devil In A New Dress, or the space like journey that is I Wonder, but really, a fairly simple hidden track is my favorite. As the sample goes, you really do feel so much erase away once the keys kick in, and honestly I really don't think there's much like it. I am not a vibes based person, but the vibe of this song is just immaculate, Late Registration era Kanye is maybe the most confident man to ever live, and it comes through but not in a I'm The Shit type of way, in a driving home late at night on a empty highway type of way, and it sounds just as beautiful as the air is on that type of night.
Screamo is normally something I don't really fuck with, and well I listen to a lot of riot grrl stuff, I never was super into Sleater-Kinney, but God damn their first album absolutely kills it, and this is song I've screamed along with the most. A lot of female punk bands kind of have that one vocal style, you know which one I mean, but Carrie's vocal performance on here may actually be my all time favorite, the very audible gulp during the 2nd verse, whether international or not, is such a brilliant detail for just a wail of a song. Raw emotion, a hard listen but sometimes it's all I fucking need. That bridge is pure revenge therapy.
You ever have the sound of bugs finding a nest in your ears ? Yeah, me as well.
